About Mad Monk

Mad Monk, LTD is an independent record label based in Tampa, Fl that was created through the visions of producer extraordinaire Quincy B. Scovill and US Virgin Islands/Tampa-based singer extraordinaire Francillia. In addition to writing, arranging, and producing doom metallers Peasants of Posture’s CounterRevolution CD, Scovill Avenue’s Big House, and Beatnik Castle’s “Will U B Mine?” 2009 Maxi-CD single. Written, arranged, and produced by Quincy B, the original version of “Will U B Mine?” was recognized by the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences Committee and placed on the Official Ballot for the 2008 Grammy Awards for Best Dance Recording.

Speaking of Grammy nods, this is the second consecutive year that a Mad Monk, LTD artist was placed on the Official Ballot for the Grammy Awards. Four different songs from Mad Monk artist Peasants of Posture’s debut CD CounterRevolution (written, arranged, and produced by Quincy B) were recognized by the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences Committee and placed on the Official Ballot for the 2008 Grammy Awards in four different categories. Four different songs from Scovill Avenue’s debut CD Big House were on the Official Ballot for the 2009 Grammy Awards by the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences in seven categories, including the coveted first three categories Record of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year, respectively. All nominated songs for both Peasants and Scovill Avenue (the former a gothic heavy metal group, the latter a commercial dance/R& B group) were written by Quincy B. In 2007, Quincy B and Mad Monk gained local recognition for “Ain’t No Bull,” a gothic industrial rap anthem that was a tribute to The University of South Florida Athletic teams.

Mad Monk LTD recording artists and psychedelic dance/pop moguls Beatnik Castle is, perhaps, the Bay Area’s coolest, hippest and dynamic eclectic musical duo. They’ve been described as the modern-day Sonny & Cher, a quirky rendition of Captain & Tennille, and a hipper version of the Eurythmics. Currently Beatnik Castle is basking in the skyrocketing worldwide success of their current single “Will U Be Mine?” “Will U B Mine?” (featuring singer Francillia) was placed on the Official Grammy Ballot by the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences in the Grammy category “Dance Single of the Year” in 2008 and 2009. Beatnik Castle also was placed in the Grammy Ballot categories “Record of the Year” and “Song of the Year” in 2010.

The Tampa Bay Area’s hottest musical duo, which included guitarist Quincy B and singer extraordinaire and Top 10 Billboard artist Ohsha Kai, was recently added to Clear Channel’s New Discover/Uncover nationwide artist roster, including Tampa’s 95.7 The Beat, and the single has over 19,000 spins.  The video for “Will U B Mine?” (directed by Russ Miller) made its national broadcast debut on Logo December 2009 and has been added to MTV, VH1, Spike TV, Music Choice and other audio and video outlets worldwide as well as winning an award at the 2010 Tampa Bay Video Awards this year. Beatnik Castle’s February 2010  limited edition Club Remix CD features new artwork and several new dance/club remixes by such dance world notables as Josh Harris, Lenny B, Cato K, Georgie Porgie, Majik Boys, Tod Miner, Julian Marsh and, of course, Quincy B. A Spanish Rap/salsa, Euro Techno, and eclectic Reggae version also will be available later this year.  Also set for release in Spring 2010 is Beatnik Castle’s follow-up single “How Do You Mend a Broken Heart (Like Mine)?” an original 70’s style psychedelic dance single featuring Ohsha Kai!

This eccentric but seemingly effective collaboration between head Beatnik Quincy B and Ohsha also promises to be both an invigorating and, indeed, refreshing musical potpourri of varied musical styles. Imagine if Swing Out Sister, U2, Fifth Dimension, The Commodores, Warrant, Lady Gaga, The Stylistics, Pat Benatar, Beyonce, Earth, Wind, & Fire, Nightwish, and Kelly Clarkson combined with Alice in Chains, Anastasia, Jim Croce, John Denver, Melissa Etheridge, and Metallica. Also scheduled for release in 2010 is a Beatnik Castle audio and video “unplugged” acoustic performance.
